Umbrella sketches, charcoal in sketchbook

I have been collecting umbrellas for a few years, most of them are old, many of them broken.  I owe thanks to my friend Cathy who has a knack for finding the most amazing and beautiful vintage umbrellas.  She has added to my collection several high quailty carefully constructed & functional umbrellas.  Here are few sketches of my black and white, slightly bent umbrella that I’ve been using this spring.

Sunday Drive

Sunday, March 29th, 2009

Went out for a Sunday Drive with friends today.  We traveled down along the river for a visit to Husom & Rose Photographics Studio, lunch at Norton’s Restaurant (where we sampled a beer made with beets from Futhermore!) & a stop into the Red Wing Depot where the Red Wing Arts Association gallery is located.

Three Regional Artist Picks of the week!

Friday Night

Friday, March 27th, 2009

End of the week update, it has been a busy week full of great little suprises.  I inherited a beautiful enormous French Easel from a painter who doesn’t want to move it across the country!  It is a great addition to my studio and will hold large canvases, it must be at least 8ft tall!  A friend brought some beautiful tulips over for my studio, I finished an experiment in sewing with a bag for my sketchbook, & stumbled upon  my friend Jay’s photography published in Creative Arts Quarterly.

I am working writing the content for my email newsletter that will begin in April & also for those of you interested in limited edition prints, there will be more information coming soon.  I’ve chosen a couple paintings that will be available in a limited quantity as fine art prints.  For anyone who would like to be on my email list, I am still planning to give away a small painting during the month of April, I’ll draw the name (out of a hat!) on the Monday after the Art Crawl.  Email me at dana@danamjohnson.com to be added to the mailing list!

Last but not least for my end of the week update, thank you to Mary Diedrick Hansen for her Art Crawl Sampler  articles in Downtown St Paul Voice.  You can pick up a copy of the paper at businesses all around Lowertown.  Or click here to view the paper online.

Only 28 days until the Art Crawl!
